WAIT, Vernon R.
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Friday September 12, 2008. Vernon was born in Chicora, Mi the son of Claude and Corla Freeman Wait. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University and earned his Master's Degree in Music from the University of Michigan. Early in his career he was a band director in Cass City, Stevensville, and St. Joe. Later he took over the family Waits Food Store business for several years. Then he moved into the music business working as a sales representative for Standard and Marshall Music Companies. Vernon was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo and the Elks BPOE #50. He was an avid golfer; enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and playing Bridge. Vernon especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; playing in the Kalamazoo Concert Band; along with dancing and listening to music. On October 18, 1947 he was united in marriage to his loving wife of 60 years the former Virginia Hanson, who preceded him in death on January 10, 2008. He was also preceded in death by a son Gregory Wait in 1992. Surviving are his children, Ted Wait of Kalamazoo, Sally Bogert and Jefrey Snyder of Hawaii, Barbara Vic Poco of Grosse Ile, MI; 3 grandchildren, Stephanie Adam Bollen, Alex and Anna Poco; and many cousins. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, 321 W. South Street with Rev. Wayne Connor officiating.
