Kalamazoo, MI Died Saturday morning March 31, 2012. Vernon was born August 26, 1923 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Harry and Helen Dunn Munson. During the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Navy. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Kalamazoo Public Schools for 19 years before retiring. Vernon was also a member of Life Spring Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carole J. Munson on January 20, 2011; a son, Vernon Allen Munson in 2009; a great-grandson, Michael Munson, Jr.; and his beloved dog, Boomer. He is survived by 11 children, Dave Pam Munson of Kalamazoo, Denice B.J. Cain of Three Rivers, Mark Debbie Munson of Mattawan, Marc Billie Sugden of Mattawan, Mike Munson of Kalamazoo, Brian Munson of Honolulu, HI, Debbie Joe Medena of Kalamazoo, Dawn Kevin Hart of Battle Creek, Robert Judy Munson of Mecosta, MI, Jeff Munson of Holland, MI, and Dwayne Shereen Munson of Plainwell; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lorraine Grosser and Ardis Tom Ivens all of Vicksburg, and Alice Entrekin of Lakeland, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11:30 Wednesday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Tuesday at the chapel. Interment will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be directed to the Life Spring Church.
