STANLEY, Mrs. Vera May Kalamazoo Vera May Stanley passed away on Sunday June, 10, 2007, in Friendship Village Health Center of Kalamazoo, MI. Vera was born January 20, 1912, in Three Rivers, MI, to Karl and Etta Elizabeth McNeil Schuler. She was a 1931 graduate of Three Rivers High School and was employed by J.J. Newberry Five and Ten Cent Store, Montgomery Ward, Gilmore Brothers Department Store and the Gulf Refining Company of South Bend. Vera was a member of Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene. On August 9, 1933, she married Harry Stanley. During most of her life, she was a minister?s wife. Vera assisted her husband as district treasurer for 20 years then graced the district parsonage as the district superintendent?s wife. Vera did children?s work, played piano and organ, and served as a Sunday school teacher. She also served as treasurer of different organizations of the Michigan districts Church of the Nazarene. After her husband retired from the ministry in 1980, Vera continued serving the Lord. Vera was preceded in death by her husband on September 24, 2005, and by her parents, a brother, George Schuler and a sister, Marion Schuler Hewes. Survivors include eleven nieces and nephews, their families, and many friends locally and across the country. Services will be held 10:30 Thursday morning at Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene, 5625 Oakland Drive, with Pastor Doug McVay of Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene and the Rev. George V. Harris of Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment in Moore Park Cemetery will follow services. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Memorials should be directed to Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene, 5625 Oakland Dr., Portage MI 49024.
