Kalamazoo Passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007. Vera was born December 25, 1922 in Bethel Park, PA the daughter of Thomas Lee and Nellie Viola Matthews Willis and had been a resident of Kalamazoo since 1990. Prior to moving to Kalamazoo, she had been employed for 15 years as a medical secretary for a large medical practice in Sewickley, PA. She enjoyed many hours walking her grand-dog, Flaus, in the Winchell neighborhood. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Hughes in July of 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Hughes of Kalamazoo and Megan Krien VerBerkmoes; and 2 granddaughters, Kristin and Lauren VerBerkmoes, all of Kingwood, TX. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. James Dyke officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of Kalamazoo County, 4239 S. Westnedge, Kalamazoo, MI 49008.
