DUNN, Velma L.
Kalamazoo Velma died peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2008, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born November 14, 1922, in Dighton, MI, one of eight children to Oliver and Minnie DePew. Velma was the former owner of Velma's Beauty Shoppe in Parchment and then was employed by Checker Motors, retiring after 17 years of service. On June 29, 1941, Velma was united in marriage with Vernon M. Dunn, who preceded her in death on April 27, 2001, after 59 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Gena Rae and five siblings, Ethel, Florence, Grace, Clifford and Wilber. Surviving are: two sons, David Dunn of Tustin and Michael Marian Dunn of Gobles; two brothers, Raymond DePew of Marion and Calvin DePew of Tustin; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1:00 Friday afternoon at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., with the Rev. John Vick, officiating. Private interment in Mount Ever-Rest North Cemetery will follow services. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Thursday.
