Kalamazoo, Michigan Died Sunday morning July 27, 2008. Gretchen was born July 26, 1914 in Battle Creek, Michigan a daughter of Willard and Grace Niblack Crawford. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident for over 30 years and was employed with the State of Michigan for 20 years, retiring in 1975. She was also a member of Michigan State Employees Association. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur C. Stephan on May 5, 2005; a son, Ronald E. Stephan; and 5 brothers and sisters. She is survived by 3 children, William Stephan of Kalamazoo, Carolyn Russell DuBuis of Grand Rapids, and Steven Louise Stephan of Newport News, VA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Jay Jones of Michigan; a sister-in-law, Betty Crawford of Lansing, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 o'clock Tuesday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private interment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City, MI. www.langelands.com . 343-1508.
