ELLIS, Udelbert W. "Jack"
of Portage Passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012. Jack was born September 29, 1930 in Battle Creek, MI to the late Clyde and Frieda Keeler Ellis. He was united in marriage to Yvonne "Vonnie" Hill on May 30, 1953. Jack served in the U.S. Army from February of 1951 until honorably discharged in February of 1953. When in his youth, Jack enjoyed playing basketball and softball. Later in life he enjoyed watching sports and doing jigsaw puzzles, but above all else he loved to play and watch golf. Jack was employed at Key Line Freight as a terminal manager, Kal-Equip and Meijer. He was last employed at States Golf Course which seemed so fitting. Surviving Jack are his wife, Vonnie Ellis; children, Catherine Scott Krueger of Mansfield, TX, Paula David Williams of Boulder, CO, Gregory Kathy Ellis of Three Rivers and Pamela Robert Varela of Mattawan; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Bassett; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding Jack in death were, brother, Clyde Ellis, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Don Bassett. Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave., where a memorial service will take place on Thursday at 3:00 o'clock, Pastor Greg Wood, officiating.
