Tressa Smit

SMIT, Tressa
of Kalamazoo Tressa went to be with her Savior on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born April 11, 1926, the daughter of Gerben and Effie Boonstra Poortenga. She was united in marriage to Everett Smit on March 26, 1947. Everett preceded her in death on September 18, 1981. Tressa was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a member of Comstock Christian Reformed Church where she was active in Ladies Bible Study and collecting cookies for veterans at Fort Custer. Her parents, siblings and spouses, Albert Angie Poortenga, Gertrude Andy Poel, Johanna Bert Triemstra, Edward Poortenga, Angeline Egbert Triemstra, and her son, David, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children and spouses, Carol Fleury, Donald and Jane Smit, Kenneth and Joanne Smit, Joy and Steven Zylstra; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Helen Triemstra, and several special nieces & nephews. The family will meet with friends from 2-4 to 6-8 on Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. The funeral service will take place Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Comstock Christian Reformed Church, 5300 Comstock Ave. with Rev. Ben Hulst, officiating. A private interment will take place following the service. Memorial contributions in Tressa's memory may be made to Comstock Christian Reformed Church, Kalamazoo Christian Schools, or Rose Arbor Hospice.
