Kalamazoo Thomas VanderLugt died Tuesday, January 15, 2008, in Kalamazoo. He was born September 28, 1925, in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Thomas and Frances Noteboom VanderLugt and had been a life long area resident. Thomas was a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church where he had served as a deacon. He also served on the North Christian Grade School Board. Thomas retired from James River Corporation in 1987, where he held many patents for carton design. In his free time Thomas enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing and traveling. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents. On October 22, 1949, Thomas was united in marriage with the former Lorraine E. Dykstra, who survives. Also surviving are: three sons, Dr. James Susan VanderLugt of Kalamazoo, Dr. Ronald VanderLugt of Kalamazoo and Donald Yumiko VanderLugt of Troy; five grandchildren, Dr. Joel Shontel VanderLugt, David Janet VanderLugt, Rachel Kyle Kuipers, Michael VanderLugt and Michelle VanderLugt; four great-grandchildren, Dawson, Jamisen and Nathan VanderLugt andCaleb Kuipers; and three nieces. Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A memorial service will be held 11:00 Saturday morning at Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Rd, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Brinks and the Rev. Dr. Harry Arnold, officiating. Private interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Thomas may be directed to Grace Christian Reformed Church, Kalamazoo Christian School Association or the Christian Resource Center. www.langelands.com 269-343-1508
