TALBOTT, Mr. Thomas E.
of Portage, Michigan Died Thursday afternoon January 31, 2013 at his residence. Tom was born September 11, 1945 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Maurice and Twila Eames Talbott. His family moved to Hartford in his early childhood and he graduated from high school in 1963. Tom attended Ferris State College, graduating in 1967 with a degree in business administration. While there, he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. Out of college, he began working at General Telephone Co. in Muskegon before moving to Kalamazoo where he secured employment with Fisher Body, a division of General Motors becoming a member of the UAW, he retired from there when the plant closed. Tom was also a long-time member of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Portage. He was a genius when it came to working with numbers and financial planning, often being asked for advice by his peers. While a quiet man who kept mostly to himself, he had some very close and dear friends, many from his high school days. In 1965, he was married to Martha Case, and is survived by one daughter and two sons: Kimera Simonds of Vicksburg, Thomas J. Talbott of Portage and Paul Lori Talbott of Kalamazoo along with 9 grandchildren: Michael Talbott, Brittany Talbott, Casey Talbott, Jayden Talbott, Jordyn Talbott, Shelby Simonds, Matthew Simonds, Madelyn Talbott and Marissa Talbott and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Nancy Roberson of Arkansas, 2 nieces and a nephew, as well as his very special friend, Jeanie Oppermann of Wisconsin, and Wiley. Services will be held 11 o'clock Monday at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 7211 Oakland Dr. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. Michael Lutheran Church School Fund.
