Kalamazoo, MI Died early Thursday morning January 20, 2011. Tom was born October 9, 1928 in Tupelo, AR the son of the late Thomas R. and Mamie Bolden Simpson. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. Tom had been a Kalamazoo area resident for over 55 years and was employed by a local paper company for 33 years until his retirement. On February 8, 1992, he was united in marriage to Rita Feuerborn who preceded him in death on February 19, 2010. Surviving are 2 children, Thomas Karen Simpson of Portage and Debbie Brian Noel of Grand Rapids; 2 brothers, Kirby Simpson of Tupelo, AR and Jerry Simpson of AR; 1 sister, Lucy Kroker of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Interment with military honors will follow in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Disabled American Veterans or Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.
