Passed away suddenly on April 24, 2007. Tom was born November 3, 1953 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of David and Janet Rietsema Sharp and was a lifelong resident of the Portage area. He was a graduate of Portage Northern High School, Class of 1972. Tom joined the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department in 1975, as a reserve officer and became a full time deputy in 1976. He was a weapons specialist. Tom was still on the active roles of the department, but had not been able to work since 1997 because of a disability. He had many hobbies including gun collecting. He loved history and enjoyed collecting anything having to do with World War II. Tom was preceded in death by his father David Sharp. Surviving are his former wife Ruth Kelemen Sharp of Portage; his mother Janet Sharp of Bangor; 4 sisters, Pam Gib Kern of Cass City, MI, Brenda Dave Kinney of Lawton, Valerie Jonathan Marks of Dowagiac and Gwen Louie Herremans of Hart, MI; several nieces and nephews. Services will held at 11:00 o?clock Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with the Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. Interment in Arlington Hill Cemetery in Bangor. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Portage Chapel.
