Tom Kallewaard was born on February 14, 1948, son of Gysbert Cornelius Kallewaard of Kalamazoo and Ann Eby of Cassopolis. Tom grew up in Niles, Michigan; earned Eagle Scout rank at age 13; graduated from Niles High School where he was a member of the golf team. He was a well-known trust and estate attorney in Washtenaw County, respected for helping client families achieve their goals fairly and equitably for over 40 years, including 13 years at Bank of Ann Arbor from which he retired as First Vice President and Senior Trust Officer in 2016.
Tom delighted in golfing with friends, planting and nurturing trees and shrubs, boating, model trains and the companionship of the large friendly dogs who joined the family over the years. After residing for more than four decades in the Village of Manchester, he moved to Kalamazoo in 2018 to be closer to family.
Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Fisher Kallewaard; son John Kallewaard of Texas Township, Michigan; daughter Jane and her husband Angus of Scotland; granddaughters Kaitlyn and Mackenzie Kallewaard; cousins John (Sue) Eby and Eric (Dolly) Eby of Dowagiac; and aunt Helen Eby of Dowagiac.
