VANDER MEER, Theodore John "Ted"
Of Kalamazoo, MI Went to be with his Lord Tuesday evening, November 24, 2009. Ted was born September 9, 1927 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Gerrit and Mary Werkema VanderMeer. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. On April 2, 1948 he was united in marriage to the former Delores Klok who survives. Ted retired from Continental Linen Services CLS, the business which he owned, operated and took great pride in for many years. He was a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church for 81 years, where he served as Deacon and Elder, along with other various committees. Ted was a member of the Gull Lake Country Club; served on the Kalamazoo Christian School Board; and was a counselor with S.C.O.R.E. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed boating, and loved being a business owner. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at various events and gatherings. Surviving along with Delores, his loving wife of 62 years are his children, Ronald J. Lorraine VanderMeer, Marjorie G. Thomas Lemmer-Westdorp, Kurtis Ted Wendy VanderMeer; 11 grandchildren, Dania, Joshua, Sarah, Austin, Logan, Shawn, Rachel, Michelle, Dawnna, P.J., and Marya; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Florence Owen VanKalker, Eleanor VanderMeer and Nellie Balkema, Sterry Lois VanderMeer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ted was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn VanderMeer. Services will be held 11:00 o'clock Monday at the Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Rd, with his dear friend, Dr. Harry G. Arnold officiating. Private family interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Saturday evening from 6-8pm and Sunday from 2-4pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street.
