Thelma I. Wuerffel

April 25, 1919 — November 6, 2015

Thelma entered gently into the arms of her Heavenly Father on November 6, 2015. She was born to Rev. Andrew and Elizabeth Feddersen in St. Louis where she worked for Bell Telephone after graduating from high school. At a church gathering she met Seminarian Carl Wuerffel and they were married in 1942 after his graduation. Through their married life they served parishes in Presho/Draper/ Murdo, South Dakota; Marion, Iowa; St. Ansgar, Iowa; Lakefield, Minnesota; Cleveland, Ohio and Kinde, Michigan. After Carl's death in 1978 Thelma moved to Vermillion, SD, to join her daughter Janet and family. There she was active in her church and worked at Dakota Hospital as a Nurse's Aide. She also began to travel extensively, visiting her children in all parts of the world. She especially enjoyed helping when a new grandchild was born. In 1991 she moved with Janet's family to Kalamazoo where she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, joined the Choir, worked with the Quilters, volunteered in the Loaves and Fishes Pantry, and helped assemble the newsletter. She continued her travels and became known affectionately to her family and friends as "Mother Everywhere." She was preceded in death by her husband. Carl T., her brothers Arthur and Edgar, her sister Adele Hilgeman, a great-granddaughter Heather Bartee, and a son-in-law James Fassino. Surviving are her nine children: Ruth (Rev. Ed) Rowley of Chester, IL; Rev. Theodore (Abby) Wuerffel of St. Louis, MO; Rev. Jon (Lola) Wuerffel of Destin, FL; Janet (Arlen) Gullickson of Kalamazoo, MI; Lois Fassino of Old Bethpage. NY; Mark (Sonja) Wuerffel of Waxhaw, NC; Carolyn (Glenn) Bayerkohler of Marshall, MN; James (Kathy) Wuerffel of Lakefield, MN; David Wuerffel of Burnsville, MN, many nieces and nephews, 29 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Her family invites you to visitation at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, on Thursday, November 12 from 2-4 pm and Friday, November 13 from 6-8 pm.
