GILL, Sylvia M. Fisher
of Kalamazoo Went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday May 17, 2011. Sylvia was born August 28, 1945 in Memphis, TN, the daughter of James and Shirley Labarre Fisher and had been a resident in Kalamazoo for most of her life. Sylvia was employed with the Kalamazoo State Hospital for 12 years and then left there to pursue higher education and received her RN/BSN Degree from Nazareth College in 1990. She was later employed for 25 years as a registered nurse at Borgess Medical Center. Sylvia enjoyed gardening, traveling, and going to garage sales. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family, and many friends. On February 2, 1961 she was united in marriage to her loving husband of 50 years, Richard Gill, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Carmina Al Jones, Cherryl Darrell Carter, Richard, Jr. Dyette Gill; 12 grandchildren, Samantha Logan, Richard L. Gill III, Braylon Gill, Charli Holloway, Tereva Carter, A.J. Jones, Kenneth Jones, Isaiah Carter, Nolan Carter, Keith Jones, Maria Magerka, and Antonio Denham; a great grandchild, Kiana Gill; sisters and brothers, Iris Denham, Victoria Reason, Margo Bundle, Ruth Reason, Michael Reason, Michelle McGhee; special friends, Deb Randy Adams, Annette Maccardini, Jen Emmerich, Betty Newsome, Amy Wilcox; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, James and Shirley; step-father, Joseph Casey; and a brother, Raymond Reason. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Marcia Liepman for her special care over the years. A Homegoing Celebration will be held Wednesday, May 25, at 12:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, with Rev. Edward Morgan officiating. There will be a family hour from 11:00 - 12:00 at the funeral home. Private family interment of cremains will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
