Sylvia Campbell, 91 of Kalamazoo, went home to be with her Lord on February 21, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Floyd and Gladys (Quinlan) Brewer on February 13, 1932, in Slade, Kentucky.
Sylvia married her love Marvin Campbell on October 8, 1949, in Kentucky. They were blessed with five children were married 60 years before Marvin’s passing on November 18, 2009. Together they moved the family to southwest Michigan and Sylvia spent several years as a supervisor at Vandenbros Greenhouse where she showcased her green thumb.
Sylvia loved her family more than anything and could easily round them up for a gathering by offering to have their favorite meals of chicken and dumplings, biscuits and grave, or liver and onions ready for them.
Aside from her family, Sylvia loved Jesus and had a very strong relationship with Him and her faith. Sometimes she would say things that her family just knew came from the Lord. Like the Apostle Andrew, she would always offer a hot meal to anyone in need or those just down on their luck.
Sylvia was an avid fisherwoman and would fish anywhere she could; she especially loved Crooked Lake and Wall Lake where she caught a massive walleye! She was a dedicated gardener and would dry her marigolds in the fall after they had died so the seeds could be saved and planted the next year. The entire neighborhood loved to see her garden in the spring, especially her impatiens. She loved watching vegetables and flowers grow from seeds to eventually feed bellies with crop or feed the soul with beauty. She began to quilt later in life and her family cherishes the quilted pieces she made for them.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter Barbara (Mike) Miller and son Melvin (Patricia) Campbell; grandchildren Michael Campbell, John Lee Campbell, Matt Campbell, and Kary (Rick) Mack; several great-grandchildren; and her sister Minnie (Tommy) Phillips. Waiting for her at the Pearly Gates are her parents Floyd and Gladys, husband Marvin; sons Donald Campbell, Dale Campbell, and Dennis Campbell; and siblings Leonard (Loretta) Brewer, Arthur (Thelma) Brewer, Henry Brewer, Dewey Brewer, Imojean (Harden) Campbell, Velma Colson, and Winfred Brewer.
