HAGEN, Sydney A.
Kalamazoo, Michigan Sydney A. Hagen, age 49, of Kalamazoo, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 26, 2009, while on a family vacation in Virginia, with her daughter, Leah and her mother, Gail Sikkema. Sydney was born in Kalamazoo on January 9, 1960, the daughter of Robert and Gail Sikkema, and was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. Sydney graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1978. She then attended and graduated from KVCC with her Nursing Degree. Her love for caring for others lead her into this career, where she worked and cared for Veterans at the Veterans Hospital in Battle Creek. After this, she moved to private nursing, where she cared for the elderly. She enjoyed golf, vacationing in historic American places, spending time with family and friends. Her joy in life was her daughter, Leah. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert, and her mother, Gail, who passed away while on vacation with Sydney and Leah. Sydney is survived by her husband, Ken Hagen of Kalamazoo; her daughter, Leah, of Kalamazoo; two brothers, Todd Pam and Craig; sister, Kimberly Steve; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service for Sydney and Gail will be held on Friday, July 3, at 11:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for Leah's future education.
