Suzanne M. Cloney Sweetland October 19, 1926 - June 27, 2013
Resided on Long Lake in Pavilion Township Suzanne M. Sweetland passed away on Thursday morning June 27, 2013, after a long illness. She was born on October 19, 1926, to the late Frank and Susan Mahard Cloney. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Phillip, Edward, and Francis J. "Joey" - died in childhood Cloney. Sue is survived by her husband of 50 years, Rodney R. Sweetland, Jr., of Scotts, Michigan; by her son, Rodney R. Sweetland, III, and grandson Rodney R. Sweetland, IV, both of Washington, D.C.; and by her nephews Michael and Patrick Cloney and her niece Rosemary Cloney. Sue was a 1944 graduate of St. Augustine school and member of St. Joseph church. She was employed by the Industrial State Bank before leaving her career to be a full-time mother, later returning to work at KVCC until her retirement. Sue was a noted athlete, involved in softball, tennis, bowling and golf; but of the four she was most enthusiastic about golf, having even managed a hole-in-one at the peak of her game. After her family her greatest love was Long Lake, where she lived her entire life; summering there as a child and later living year around as an adult. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, July 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St., Msgr. Michael Hazard, Celebrant. Friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Catholic Schools of Greater Kalamazoo, 1000 W. Kilgore Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49008.
