Susan F. (Blank) Munden

Susan Florence Munden passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, November 29, 2022, in Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born May 16, 1944, in Chicago, IL the daughter of Lester L. and Caroline A. (Fend) Blank.

Her family moved to Kalamazoo when she was an infant. She grew up in the Oakwood Neighborhood and attended Oakwood Elementary and Oakwood Junior High School. In 1962, she graduated from Loy Norrix High School. As a young woman, Susan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She attended Western Michigan University and was a lifelong supporter of their athletic programs. Susan also enjoyed Big 10 basketball and football. In 1991, Susan received her associate degree from KVCC with honors.

Susan was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. One great pleasure she had was to play her ukulele and sing to her grandchildren.

Susan had an upbeat and effervescent personality. Over the course of her life, she held numerous secretarial positions.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerome; niece, Robin; and nephew, Jeffery. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James W. Munden; sons, Timothy Blank, Jamison (Melinda) Munden, and Christopher (Melynda) Munden; grandchildren, Jackson, Lucas, Robbie, Ellie, and Caleb; nephew, Bryan Blank; niece, Michelle Blank; and several cousins.

Inurnment services were held in Ft. National Cemetery. A celebration of life gathering will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Fieldstone Grill, 3970 W. Centre Avenue, Portage MI 49024 from 2 to 5pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Susan’s memory to the Special Olympics, Residential Opportunities, Inc.
