On June 14th 2023, Stephan Bruce Stressman, beloved father of two, passed away at the age of seventy-three. Born to Cedric and Maude Stressman, Steve served for four years as a medic in the U.S. Air Force at Goose Airbase in Labrador, Canada and Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona.
Steve worked for over thirty years as a cardiovascular first assistant at both Borgess and Bronson Hospitals, and was among the first in his field to begin practicing endoscopic vein harvesting, a minimally invasive surgical procedure responsible for vastly improving cardiovascular surgery outcomes for countless patients.
Steve is survived by his children Phillip Stressman and Emily Stressman Oberg, as well as by their mother Patti (Westhoff) Ketelaar, with whom he remained close until the end. Friends may gather with Steve's family on Tuesday, June 20th, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Home, 3926 S. 9th St. in Kalamazoo, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead make a donation to The Moldova World Children's Fund for the aid of Ukrainian refugee children, a cause that was close to Steve’s heart:
