Steve Ayvazian, age 91, of Kalamazoo, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at his home. Steve was born in Detroit, MI, on May 25, 1931, the son of the late Stephen Ayvazian and Jane (Walker) Ayvazian. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Throughout his lifetime he worked in the food and beverage industry, managing restaurants and selling wine. He was a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and boating, and was a member of H.P.Y.C. (Huron Pointe Yacht Club). He was a member of the Moose, American Legion, and Eagles Club. He was an avid football fan and loved sharing recipes and cooking. He tremendously enjoyed spending his winters in Florida.
He was united in marriage with Virginia Helms on August 18, 1951. Virginia survives him along with five children, Sheryl (Robert) Vickers, Terilynn (Brad) Bradley, Kathleen Ann Bliss, Karen Kay McVicar, and Jennifer Dale (David) Forgacs; eighteen grandchildren, Dana (Mike), Krista (Jeff), Brandon (Sheri), Brent (Pam), Brian (Jen), Steve (Rose), Jessie, Kurt (Mari), Greg (Tammy), Kevin (Denise), Todd (Stacey) Sarah (Ray), Kenny (Gary), Katie (Scott), Danielle (Frank), Kaitlynn (Billy), Alyssa (Joey), and Ethan; twenty-five great-grandchildren, Robert, Mikayla, Angela, Bastian, Ciera, Blaine, Tori, Luna, Kayleigh, Rylee, Kyle, Eddie, Gunner, Brecker, Denise, Jackson, Rylee, Lillian, Charlotte, Colin, Karley, Arya, Xander, Aleyna, Lukas; and one great-great-grandchild, Zeke; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Jane Ayvazian; one brother, William “Bill” Ayvazian and one sister, Marguerite Archer; two sons-in-law, Bill Bliss and Wayne McVicar; one grandchild, Michael and a great-grandchild, Dylan.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 7211 Oakland Drive, Portage, MI 49024. Rev. Paul Naumann will officiate the service, with interment to follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Michael Lutheran Church or Battle Creek VA Medical Center.
