YOUNG, Stephen R.
of Galesburg Unexpectedly passed away at his home on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the age of 55. Steve was born on March 26, 1956 in Benton Harbor, MI to Jack and Virginia Mitchell Young. On August 8, 1981 he was united in marriage to Debra Kugler Young. Surviving are his wife, Debra of Galesburg; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Young and Nick Lynn; 2 granddaughters, Skylar and Hailey all of Kalamazoo; his parents, Jack and Ginnie Young of Kalamazoo; brother Dan Joan Young of Sun Prairie, WI; sister, Lori David Johnson of Comstock; brother-in-law, Kim Nadine Kugler of Mattawan; several nieces and nephews, cousins, Aunts, Uncles and wonderful close friends. Steve worked for Aero-Motive for over 25 years as a welder before the plant closed down. After which, he followed his dream of years ago and became a truck driver for Home City Ice, and he also worked part-time at Parkview Café in Richland. A little over 3 years ago, Steve was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He fought his way back after a difficult surgery. Steve loved the "great up north" of Michigan and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting in his younger years. In his late teens he became involved with West Portage Little League as a coach, then later he became a member of the board of directors until 1982. He was a devoted Michigan State and Lions fan. He loved spending time with family and friends and especially with his 2 granddaughters. Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St. Services will take place Thursday at 10:00 at Kalamazoo Community Church, 2435 N. 26th St., Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Kalamazoo Community Church or West Michigan Cancer Center.
