Stephen Andrew Van Ness

VAN NESS, Stephen A. "Steve"
of Portage Passed away December 2, 2010 at home. He was born April 18, 1990 in Kalamazoo to Timm and Jane Haselow VanNess. Steve was a graduate of Portage Central High School. He played the saxophone in band during high school and at KVCC where he attended part-time. He played KOHA Hockey from age 4 all the way through high school and was on the tennis team for two years, one year as captain of the JV team. Stephen enjoyed taking his dogs, Brae Border Collie and Chloe Beagle for walks in the West Lake Nature Preserve, fishing on West Lake and being with his friends. Surviving Steve are his father, Timm Andrea VanNess; his mother, Jane William Haselow Lesman; 2 brothers, Scott and Andrew VanNess; step-brothers, Michael and Donald Ketner, Samuel and Benjamin Lesman; step-sister, Bethany Lesman; and grandmother, Prudence "Sandy" VanNess. Preceding Steve in death were his grandparents, Vance VanNess and William and Carol Haselow. Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6-8:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave., where services will take place on Thursday at 1:00 o'clock. Interment will follow at South Portage Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Portage Central High School band.
