Stephen Clyde Mockbee, 71 of Marcellus, passed away at home with his wife by his side on June 12, 2023. He was born on May 1, 1952, in Kalamazoo to William and Jean (Hansen) Mockbee.
Steve graduated from Loy Norrix High School and attended Western Michigan University. He spent his career at Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital and retired after 30 years. Steve married the former Lois Boers King on May 10, 1996, in Centerville, they enjoyed 27 married years and over 40 years together.
He loved the Upper Peninsula and the many trips he took with his wife. He enjoyed camping and fishing, especially ice fishing with his brother-in-law, Jimmy. Many memories were made at his family’s cabin on Cool Lake. He loved nature, watching birds, feeding deer in his yard and hunting for mushrooms.
Steve and Lois enjoyed bowling on leagues and their frequent casino trips. He always supported the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers, through the good and bad seasons. Steve loved dogs and had them his whole life, he had special bonds with his chocolate lab, Charlie and cocker spaniel, Rutherford. He was one of Elvis’ biggest fans and could be found singing along with his grandson, Carson to Elvis and other oldies.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Lois; stepsons Bob (Tonya) King and Chad (Audrey) King; grandchildren Carson, Macy, Kylee, Charlie, Colt, and Noah King; sisters Teri (Terry) Irmen and Kathy (Dan) Wachtor; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph Mockbee, and many beloved dogs.
Services for Steve will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes 622 S. Burdick St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007 on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Steve to National Wildlife Federation and Bronson Hospital Cancer Center – Kalamazoo Fund.
