Stephen L. Langeland

Passed away Thursday evening, April 4, 2024 at Kairos Dwelling surrounded by family. Steve was born July 11, 1955 in Kalamazoo, the son of Warren and Nella (Sweet) Langeland. Steve graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1973 before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kalamazoo College in 1977. He obtained a Juris Doctor degree from University of Tulsa in 1980. Steve then returned to Kalamazoo, where he practiced law and served as a US Trustee for over 30 years. He married his beautiful wife, Deborah (Colvin) on October 9, 1981. Together they grew a family and built a life. 

Steve loved photography, nature, travel, reading, studying history, and spending time with friends. He enjoyed gardening and created beautiful flower beds together with his wife. A pillar of the community, Steve had a soft heart for helping people down on their luck.  

Steve was preceded in death by his loving wife Deborah (Colvin) on October 31, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Langeland. He is survived by his children, Joshua (Rachael) Langeland and Aubrey (Mansoor) Arain; 3 grandchildren, Addison, Gretchen, and Noora; brother and sisters, James Langeland, Jane (Kenneth) Schroder, and Margaret (Jeffery) Landon; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to honor Steve’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 13 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A light reception and time to visit with the family will follow the service in the Langeland Family Center. Private family interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South.
