Stephen Douglas Blink passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024 from natural causes in Galesburg, MI. He was the first born of Richard Blink and Esther (Nelson) Blink and entered this world on November 24, 1947. He was the apple of his mother's eye and was named after her brother that perished in WWII. His childhood was active.... Little League baseball, fishing, hunting for arrowheads (he had quite a collection), camping, and bowling. He played the French Horn in the Marching Band at Portage High School, where he graduated from in 1965, and was on the gymnastics team. That same year he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1965 - 1972. His sea faring days were on the USS Bennington and the USS Saint Paul where he was a Communications Technician. His travels took him to Vietnam and to Okinawa, Japan. He also spent some time in Hong Kong. After leaving the Navy, he began a 30-year employment with the United States Post Office. The last few years at the USPS he held the important position of Time Clerk, retiring in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his niece, Jessica Makowski and stepbrother, Tom Meyers. Surviving are his children, Rick (Lisa) Blink, Peggy Blink and Stephen Blink; grandchildren, Donte (Nathan) Blink, Kylah Blink, Brandi Blink and Amber Blink; sisters, Peggy (Steve) Makowski and Marilyn Blink Carroll; stepmother, Eva Blink; stepsisters, Judy Brisbane and Connie (Tom) Glass; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. He will be interred with Military Honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10:30am. As he was an avid dog lover and had many pets in his lifetime, donations in his memory may be made to the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue, 4669 Executive Drive, Portage, MI 49002.
