Of Vicksburg Stanley Mitchell Cartwright died Sunday, November 7, 2010, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born August 1, 1952, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Stanley L and Rubydoris Reinbold Cartwright and had been a lifelong area resident. He worked for Summit Polymers, Inc. for the past 16 years. Stanley was a man of deep faith and an active member of Country Christian Evangelical Free Church in Scotts. Stanley served the church as a deacon, was the cook for the children's programs and a helpful volunteer on the lawn care crew. He was also very involved with his sons in Boy Scout Troop 251. Stanley was a man with a terrific work ethic, never missing a day of work and always completing his tasks. His last gift in life was to be a donor for the Michigan Eye Bank so someone else could see this beautiful world. Stanley was preceded in death by his grandparents, father-in-law, Wayne Hunt and an aunt, Miriam Svancara. On October 22, 2005, Stanley was united in marriage with the former Terri Vander Veen, who survives. Also surviving are: his children, Angela Cartwright of Kalamazoo, Joseph Cartwright of Portage, Matthew Cartwright of Scotts and Adam Cartwright of Vicksburg; step-children, Matthew Gail Salisbury of Scotts, Adam Jennifer Salisbury of Kalamazoo, Eric Salisbury of Delton and Angela Jon Ekema of Portage; grandchildren, Rileigh, Mason, Carson, Jacklynn & Weston; parents, Stanley Maggie Lang Cartwright of Kalkaska and Rubydoris Kirk Stretton of Portage; sisters, Doris Michael McClish and Shirley Gary Overloop; brother, Wesley Susan Cartwright; in-laws, Richard Betty Vander Veen of Kalamazoo and Barbara Hunt of Mendon; sister-law, Michelle Dave Skinner; brothers-in-law, Rick Sonja Vander Veen and Doug Rhonda Vander Veen; aunt, Sue east; uncle, Otto Marge Reinbold; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his faithful companion, Buddy, his Golden Retriever. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel 411 E. Centre Ave. Funeral services will be held 2:00 Friday afternoon at Country Christian Evangelical Free Church, 9286 S. 36th St., with the Rev. Patrick Clarey, officiating. Interment in Boughton Cemetery will follow services. Memorials should be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center or Country Christian Evangelical Free Church.
