ZWART, Sidney
of Kalamazoo Passed away on September 21, 2011 at Kairos Dwelling. Sidney was born June 21, 1929 in Grand Rapids, MI, a son of Ralph and Frances Draayer Zwart and had lived in Kalamazoo for most of his life. All of his life, he was involved in the carpet business, first as an installer for Menzie Carpets and later as owner and operator of Sid Zwart Carpets. Sidney was a former member of Second Christian Reformed Church for many years. He liked old cars, enjoyed tinkering and owned a sail boat at one time. Sidney especially loved and enjoyed his family as they spent time camping, traveling throughout the world with his loving wife Agnes and "Paka" taking his great-grandchildren for rides on his "Big Red Tractor". Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Agnes Delger to whom he was married on May 6, 1949 in Kalamazoo. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Linda Tom VandenBerg, Barb Arnold Woldhuis and Denise Rick Glas, all of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Tricia Tony Fraij, Cindy Jon Robinson, Jon Caiti Woldhuis, Scott Lisa Woldhuis, Susan Kyle Kamps, James Woldhuis, Amanda Joel VanderWal and Abe Rachael Glas; great-grandchildren, Tommy & Carson Fraij, Logan, Emma and Cole Woldhuis, Harley, Kaylee and Benjamin Kamps, Elsie Woldhuis, Samuel VanderWal and a new great-grandbaby expected in January; brothers, Frank Joyce Zwart, Bernard Judy Zwart, Ralph Zwart and Gordon Dona Zwart; a sister-in-law Emily Sherm Adams and a brother-in-law Martin Chris Delger; several nieces and nephews. Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Frances Zwart, a sister Agnes Madden and a brother Peter Zwart. Private graveside services will be held at West Cooper Cemetery with a memorial service at 1:00 pm on Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with his grandson, the Rev. Joel VanderWal officiating. Friends may meet the family this evening from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
