Shantaben Sharma, age 88, passed away Tuesday morning, August 25, 2015 in Kalamazoo. She was born on July 8, 1927 in Sinjiwada, India, a daughter of the late Motibhai and Suraj Sharma. She and her husband Chhotabhai Sharma moved their entire family to the United States in 1984 and made many friends in the Kalamazoo area over the years. Shantaben loved music, serving her family and living life to the fullest every day. She was always young at heart and her family was her priority. Her home was her temple and her children and grandchildren were her whole life. She was lovingly called "Mummy" to her family. She is survived by her husband, Chhotabhai; four children, Rajendra Sharma, Usha N. (Natvar) Lal, Umesh (Punita) Sharma and Jay (Neha) Sharma; seven grandchildren, Samir, Amit, Aashna, Sonali, Radhika, Kush and Yash; and many extended family members and close friends. Private ceremonies were held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
