Kalamazoo

Sgt. David Andrew Blizzard of Kalamazoo, MI passed away unexpectedly on October 18, 2023 with only thoughts of his children on his heart and in his mind. He left behind many who love and miss him dearly, including his children Guinevere and Everett Blizzard, his brothers, Adam and Nathan Blizzard, his wife, Jacqui, his parents Andy (Shelly) Blizzard and Jean (Bo) Abbott, his grandparents Billie Martinez, Robert Denslow, Sue Ecker and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins who love him unconditionally.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Mellissa Blizzard and grandfather, Louis Ecker.

David spent four years in the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Field Radio Operator in the 3rd AABN amphibious assault battalion in the Iraq War in 2003 and quickly earned a ranking of Sergeant.  He was awarded many medals, ribbons and badges during his service to our country and was proud to serve with his USMC brothers and sisters.

David loved riding dirt bikes and mountain bikes with his kids. He enjoyed listening to audio books and playing Dungeons and Dragons with his amazing friends he met in Kalamazoo. He helped raise money for El Sol Elementary and was a fixture at his kids’ school.  He loved dressing up for Halloween and enjoyed the autumn season. He loved music and going to concerts, especially Dwight Yoakam.

David will be missed by his VA community, his Kalamazoo community, his Marine Corps community, and all of his many incredible friends and family.

David will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 9:30 am, the 248th birthday of the USMC. Everyone is invited to meet at Bell's Brewery (in the back room) to celebrate David's life beginning at 11:00 am on the same day.
