Serafin Mendez

Serafin Mendez, age 74 of Kalamazoo, died on January 12, 2025. He was born on August 1, 1950, in Matamoras, Mexico, the son of Simon and Tomasa (Lozoya) Mendez Lopez. Serafin graduated from school in Mexico. For 35 years, he was married to Mary (Vega) Mendez prior to his death. He loved coffee and visiting with friends and frequented many local restaurants, like Juliannas and La Familia, to get a fresh cup of coffee and visit. Serafin previously worked at Kalamazoo Metal Recycler and JBS Packaging. His family includes his wife Mary Mendez; his daughters: Ida (Daniel) Salas and Norma Vega; his step-children: Francisco, Rachel, and Stephanie; his grandchildren: Daniel, Miguel, Ariana, Sienna, King, Victor, Francisco, Jr., Chris, Amanda, Elizabeth, Tyler, Marissa, Samuel, Carlos, Macy, Marco, George, and David; several great-grandchildren; his sisters: Amparo Alegra, Anna Mendez, Lilly Duran, Carmella Espinoza, and Celia Mendez; and many nieces and nephews. 

Friends may join the family for a graveside service on Monday, January 20th, at 12:00 PM, at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 20th, at Asembleas de Dios 7835 Lovers Lane Portage, 49002, at 1:00 PM.
