of Portage, Michigan Passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012. Sarah was born on January 27, 1922, the daughter of the late Thomas and Amanda Hann Bennett. Sarah was a loving wife and mother. She was the wife of a career military man; they traveled all over the United States and to Europe. She had to pack up all of her and their children's belongings every three to four years to travel to his next assignment. While he was away serving his country she was the sole head of house. She supported her husband in his career by being a career house wife and mother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid bowler, she was very excited when she rolled her first 279 game in January 1979, had she gotten three more strikes she would have been the first KAWBA member to hit 300. She attended many national tournaments and taught bowling at Sunset Lanes. She also enjoyed dancing and golf with her husband. On April 30, 1946 she was united in marriage to her loving husband of over 60 years, LTC Stephen F. Barton; he preceded her in death on May 4, 2012. Surviving are 5 children, Stephen Pamela Barton, Michael Adele Barton, Deborah James Crocker, Sarah Gregg McChesney, John Denise Barton; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Bennett; two sisters, Marjorie Lyons and Mary Ellis Cooke; and several nieces and nephews. Sarah was preceded in death by a son, Penn; and four brothers, Tom, Ed, Don and Jim. A memorial service to celebrate Sarah's life will be held at 2:00 Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre. Private family interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
