BALD, Mrs. Sara Jane "Missy"
Kalamazoo, Michigan Died peacefully at home Thursday, October 16th, 2008. Missy was born in Flint, MI January 30, 1941, to R. Dean and Berenice MacGregor Kirk. She graduated from the Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, MI and the University of Michigan. She received her Masters Degree in Education from Western Michigan University. Missy moved to Kalamazoo in 1969 and was active in the community for many years. She was the President of the Kalamazoo Academy Medical Auxiliary and a member of Service Club of Kalamazoo where she served on committees for Pretty Lake Vacation Camp and Child Abuse and Neglect. In addition she served on the board of directors for the YMCA and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae, the First Presbyterian Church, the Kalamazoo Country Club, and Park Club. Missy taught First Grade at Haverhill Elementary School in Portage, MI before retiring. She enjoyed playing bridge, tennis, traveling, summers at her cottage on Crystal Lake and her family and many friends. Missy married Frederick W. Bald, III on June 20, 1962. He preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Charlie and Karen Bald of Charlotte, NC, Rick and Elizabeth of Chicago, IL and Jon Bald of Park City, UT and Empire, MI; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sarah Bald of Charlotte and Alexandra and Katherine Bald of Chicago; her mother Berenice Kirk Gordon of Kalamazoo; a brother John and Carol Kirk of Bloomfield Hills, MI; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 3 o'clock Monday, Oct 20th at the First Presbyterian Church, 321 W. South Street. Private interment will be at Crystal Lake Cemetery, Frankfort, MI. Memorials to be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite 100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 or Pretty Lake Vacation Camp, 9123 West Q Ave, Mattawan, MI 49071. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to one of the Memorials.
