Samuel R. Poland, 99, of Portage, MI, was called home to his eternal rest with Jesus Christ on September 6, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. He was born February 26, 1913 in Kalamazoo MI, the son of the late David and Johanna Hoogenboom Poland. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sister Elizabeth Joe Noordam, Brothers Clarence and George and Niece Donna Poland. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army where he received the Bronze Star as a Machine Gun Team Leader in General George Patton's 3rd Army. Upon discharge, he was employed by the State of Michigan for 27 years retiring in 1975. He was a lifetime member of Bethany Reformed Church. His hobbies included 3D photography, hunting and fishing. Most of all he loved his God and family. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife and faithful companion of 65 years Elizabeth Bette Cosley; daughter, Rhonda Larry Dunn of Fredericksburg VA.; son, Scott Poland, of Phoenix AZ.; four grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey and Sarah Poland of Phoenix, AZ., and Samantha Dunn of Fredericksburg, VA; Niece, Marilyn Glasscock and Nephew, David Noordam, both of Kalamazoo. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S Burdick Street. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, September 10, 2012, at Bethany Reformed Church, with Rev. Dr. Robert Terwilliger, Officiating. A committal with Military Honor Guard will follow at Mt.
