Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2008. He was born March 12, 1916 in Jasionowska, Poland, a son of Alex and Rose Yanofski Halpert. He and his beloved wife, Rosalie, lived in Paw Paw and owned the Warner Supply Company now called the "Do-It Center" for 33 years. His customers were among his best friends. After retirement, he served as Paw Paw Township Supervisor for 12 years. Then the couple moved to Kalamazoo, where he served as a volunteer adviser for SCORE Senior Core of Retired Executives, helping people who operated small businesses. His great passions in life were his family, friends, his religion, telling jokes and providing advice to the many people who sought him out. During WW II, he served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Congregation of Moses and served 3 terms as its President before being honored to an appointment as a Lifetime Trustee. He also belonged to the Congregation's Men's Club, B'nai Brith, the American Legion, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of the Elks Club. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; his daughter, Sherry Walter Davis of Okemos; his son, Rick Mary Halpert of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, David Elise Halpert and their wonderful daughter Grace of Chicago, Mike Mara Halpert of New York, and Emily Davis of Okemos; two sisters, Celia Besbris of California and Bernice Weiner of Grand Rapids and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Ben Halpert. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Rabbi Harvey Spivak officiating. Interment will follow in Jewish Riverside Cemetery.
