Ruthie "Ruth" Poissant-Breiland

Passed away Saturday morning, February 17, 2024, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born Ruthie Viola Reule April 30, 1928, in Viking Township, ND the daughter of Reinhold and Martha (Aman) Reule. Ruthie grew up in Olmstead, ND and graduated from Egeland high school. After marrying, she and Wauburn A. Poissant lived in Cando, ND, and Herlong, CA. Following their return to ND, Ruth and Wauburn lived in Grand Forks where Ruth worked for the Grand Forks public schools at both Roosevelt and Lewis and Clark Elementary schools and as an office manager at Nodak Mutual Insurance company. Ruth was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and later Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks where she participated in many ministries over the years. After Waubrun retired, Ruth owned and ran Ruth’s Fashion Shop in Fertile, MN near Maple Lake, MN where they built their retirement home on the lake. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and entertaining family and friends. She also belonged to a regular bridge group and enjoyed gathering to play games of all kinds. Ruth and Wauburn spent their later years living in Grand Forks and Buxton, ND. With her second husband, Lowell, Ruthie enjoyed traveling and spent several of her later years in both Mesa, AZ and Buxton, ND. Following Lowell’s death, she continued to enjoy time in Mesa, Green Valley, AZ and Grand Forks, ND, devoting her attention to her family, friends, and loyal little dogs, Pepper and Tessa. At the time of her death, Ruthie was living in Kalamazoo, MI near family. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Wauburn A. Poissant and Lowell Breiland; siblings, Esther (Lloyd) Halverson, Delores (Albert) Schroeder, Gloria (Ronald) Weibe, Lois (Merton) Martin, Elaine (Dal) Welch, Roland (Patricia) Reule. She is survived by her children, Lila Hauge-Stoffel, Bradley (Linda) Poissant; grandchildren, Nicole (Gregory) Tiongson, Tiffany (Mike) Galletta; great-grandchildren, Noah (Kelcie) Tiongson, Emma (Chandler) Tiongson, Ewan Tiongson, Taylor Kueber, Alexius Galletta; siblings, Levina Veum, Leona Bueligen, Roger (JoAnn) Reule; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and private interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND.
