JOHNSTON, Ruthann
Of Kalamazoo Passed away Saturday evening, October 1, 2011 at the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Ruthann was born June 4, 1938 in Mattawan the daughter of the late Delbert and Lephia Klinger Martin, and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. Prior to her retirement in 1994, she worked at Western Michigan University for 20 years. Ruthann was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and enjoyed reading. She loved spending time outdoors and enjoying nature on her trips to the cabin up north. Ruthann especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their baseball games and other various activities. On June 24, 1955 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Richard J. Johnston who preceded her in death on July 3, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Delberta Miller; and a brother, George Martin. Surviving are children, Sherry Michael Kimble, Richard W. Sarah Johnston, Pamela Thomas VanFulpen; 5 grandchildren Kristina, Brett, Daniel, Nicholas, and Brooke; a sister, Linda Reynolds; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 o'clock Thursday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre, with Rev Jim Dyke officiating. Entombment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at the Portage Chapel.
