SHEPPERLY, Ruth C.
Of Kalamazoo, MI Ruth passed away early Monday morning, September 14, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born September 1, 1934 in Milaca, MN, the daughter of Ernest and Gertie Roelofs Ruis. On June 8, 1957, Ruth was united in marriage to Jack Shepperly. She was employed as an RN for 30 years until her retirement. She was an active member of Third Christian Reformed Church for over 40 years. Ruth also enjoyed quilting and was a longtime member and past president of Kalamazoo Garden Club. Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Jack Shepperly; their 2 sons, Jack Julie Shepperly of Kalamazoo, and Joel Nancy Shepperly of Battle Creek; 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Lydia, Gregory, and Morgan; 4 sisters, Dorothy Wierenga, Ethel "Dolly" Robert Carl, Hazel Marthinsen, and Trudy Bruce Soileau; 2 brothers, Lester Esther Ruis, and Robert Iva Ruis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; and 4 brothers, Eibert, George, Arthur, and Ernest Ruis. Funeral services for Ruth will be at 12:00 PM on Thursday at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Avenue, with Rev. Margaret J. Jenista officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Interment will be in West Cooper Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center, Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, or Kalamazoo Nature Center.
