ROOT, Ruth Evelyn
Of Kalamazoo Ruth Evelyn Root was born May 2, 1919, in Prairieville, Michigan, the daughter of Gilbert and Eleanor Amos Perigo and went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2012, in Kalamazoo. She was a longtime Kalamazoo area resident. Ruth had a strong Christian faith which guided her through her entire life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo. She loved music and was a longtime member of the church choir. In the early 1940's she played guitar and sang in the Tropical Islanders Hawaiian Orchestra. Ruth enjoyed photography, biking, camping and spending time with her family. On January 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to Norman Root who preceded her in death in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings, Willis Perigo, Betty Snow, Dale Perigo and Ross Perigo. Surviving are her three daughters, JoAnne Ernest Ivey of Kalamazoo, Susan Raymond Eden of Kalamazoo and Norene Ben Dye of Sacramento; eight grandchildren, Leah Brett Truckenbrod, Robert Tracy Ivey, John Charles Michelle Ivey, Richard Burkhart, Ben Kaelyn Dye, Urie Tiffany Dye, Kristina Eden , Michael Liu Yuan Yuan Eden; 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In accordance with Ruth's wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo 212 S. Park St with Rev. Sandra Elfring officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth's memory may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
