POWERS, Ruth M.
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Ruth passed away late Saturday evening May 10, 2008 at her home with her family by her side. She was born February 9, 1933 in Hartford MI. the daughter of the late Dariel and Elizabeth Wise Hough. Preceding her in death were four brothers and seven sisters. She has 1 surviving brother, William Hough of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Ruth grew up in Hartford in her early years then moved to Kalamazoo where she met Bernard Shaw Powers at the Silver Star Roller Skating Rink. They soon got married and began raising their 7 children. Ruth was an avid bowler and in 1976 she became the 4th woman in Kalamazoo to record a 700 series! 701 She enjoyed traveling to many destinations with her family. Her favorite places being Hawaii, Colorado, Las Vegas and visiting her youngest sons in Florida and Texas. She also loved cooking for her family, planting and growing flowers in her yard. On September 27, 1997, she lost the love of her life, Bernard, and continued to take pride in being the mom she was. Surviving are 7 children, Steve Robin Powers, Bob Powers, and Bernard Powers Jr. of Kalamazoo; Vicky Dunlap of Vicksburg, Debra Gary Stoyanoff of Plainwell, David Lisa Powers of Seffner, FL, & Glenn Powers of Dallas, TX; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and a devoted niece, Mary Carter and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Ruth will be 2:00 PM PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE on Wednesday tomorrow at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel at 3926 S. 9th St. in Oshtemo with Pastor Pat Clarey officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Tuesday today at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
