Russell Henry Schieber, age 79, of Portage, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday morning, August 6, 2024.
Russell was born on September 18, 1944, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to the late Charles and Martha (Henschenmacher) Schieber. He graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School in 1962. He was a Certified Master Mechanic and retired from General Motors' truck repair department.
Russell enjoyed the outdoors. He loved his yearly deer hunting trips with friends and fishing in his younger years. He loved nothing more than long drives with the windows open and music playing. Russ also loved to travel and explored much of the US. As a motorcycle lover, Russ especially loved Harley-Davidsons and owned many of them in his lifetime. He was not one to give up easily; he even rode his last Harley with his cane strapped onto it. Russ loved spending time with his kids, and he coached several of their sports teams.
His children survive Russell: Stephanie (Tom) Hazel, Sandra (Steven) Brinn, and Morgan Schieber; six grandchildren, Sam Hazel, Cooper Hazel, Sawyer Hazel, Violet Brinn, Grady Brinn, and Jackson Brinn; great-grandchildren, Emerson Hazel, Aela Hazel, and Sparrow Hazel. Russell is also survived by his sister, Marlee (Russ) Hawken, and several nieces and nephews.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marsha Schieber, who passed away on August 30, 2008. During their 40 years together, Russ and Marsha made their family their priority. They devoted themselves to raising and loving their three children and spending as much time as possible with family. Russell was also preceded in death by his siblings, Sharon Schieber and Randy Schieber.
