NASH, Russell V. "Butch"
Of Galesburg, MI Died March 20, 2009 at the Laurels of Galesburg. Butch was born May 4, 1938 in Osceola, IN, the son of Russell and Nellie Miller Nash and had lived in Galesburg for the past 3 years, previously living in Plainwell and Kalamazoo. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy having served during the Vietnam Era. Butch was self employed for several years as owner of Shields Sanitation Service and later worked for 20 years at Aromatics in Grand Rapids. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. Butch was an avid sports fan, especially rooting for the Detroit Lions and was an outdoor enthusiast where he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. He also loved reading Western Novels. He was a very loving and caring individual and especially loved his wife, children, stepchildren and all of the grand children. Butch was preceded in death by his parents and by 2 brothers, Howard and Bobby Nash. On January 1, 1995, he was married to Dena DeForest Coe, who survives. Also surviving are children, Nathan Janice Nash of Otsego and Jennifer Sam Grill of Plainwell; stepchildren, Erick DeForest of Carson City, MI, Lori Jim Pitzer of Kalamazoo, Catherine Thomas Thompson of Portage, Julie Tim Brown of Portage and Jennifer Coe of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren, Emily, Jacob and Hailey Grill, Patrick and Grayson Nash; 10 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, David Judy Nash of Martin, Earl Linda Nash of Lawrence and Larry Alice Nash of Brownsville, TX; several nieces and nephews and his best friend Jim Weaver. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 o'clock Wednesday at the Victory Baptist Church, 308 W. Milham in Portage with Pastor Ken Hale officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Butch's memory may be made to the Jericho Foundation, 5474 Stoneybrook, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
