Passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the age of 63. He was born in San Francisco, CA on July 24, 1952, the son of the late Robert and Marjorie Matlock. He served his country as Sergeant in the Third Air Wing of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as Crash, Fire and Rescue. He served as a Commandant with the Marine Corps League of Kalamazoo. He was a member of the Patriot Guard. He received many awards, including the STAR Award from Kalamazoo Volunteer Services. He was active with Toys for Tots for many years. He enjoyed riding his Harley, especially with his "brother" Fred Gramza. He retired from General Motors after twenty-five years of service. Russell is survived by his loving wife, Sally Matlock; his son, Matthew Scott Matlock; two step-daughters, Kelly Russell Menken and Kim Maureen Doxtator Watson; two grandchildren, Jessica Menken and Kurtis Menken; and siblings, Robert (Dorothy) Matlock, Michella "Ralph" Matlock and Donavon Matlock; and his sister-in-law, Susan Lynch. He was preceded in death by his step-son, Kurtis Mattheau Russell. Friends may visit with the family from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 30th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave. Interment with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 1st at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, with the procession leaving from the funeral home at 10 a.m.
