ROEDER, Mr. Roy R.
Portage, MI Passed away Friday morning January 8, 2010 at home with his family around him. He was born November 25, 1920 in Wichita, Kansas a son of John W. and Myrtle "Irene" Donham Roeder. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army in England with the Transportation Corp. Roy was involved in the planning for the D-Day invasion and delivered highly classified documents to the front lines. He also enjoyed being an assistant scout master for his son's Boy Scout Troop #43, years ago. Roy was employed with the Mead Corporation for 41 years, retiring in 1982. For 19 years, he loved spending winters in Phoenix with his wife and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; a brother; and a niece. Roy was married 61 years to Betty Hartoog Roeder who survives. Also surviving, two children, Mike Roeder and Kathy Roeder both of Portage; three grandchildren, Kristy Joe Herman, and Ryan and Erik Denny; two step granddaughters, Tara Davin Ojala and Kelly Scott Kovalska; a sister, Dorothy Beetch; 2 nephews; and 5 nieces. Services will be held 1 o'clock Tuesday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Visitation will be 6-8pm Monday. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
