SMITH, Ronald L.
Of Climax, Michigan Ron passed away Thursday afternoon, February 28, 2008 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born November 12, 1932 in Jackson, the oldest of eight children to Llewelyn and Virginia Sweet Smith. Ron graduated from Jackson High School in 1951. He then moved to Climax to farm with his grandmother and Bob Clifford. In 1964, he went to work for Clark Equipment Co. for 27 years. He then went to work for Battle Creek Health Systems in 1987 until his retirement in 1998. On November 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Barton in Climax, who survives. Also surviving are their 4 children, Robins Kim Smith of Scotts, Ellen Smith of Portage, Cindy Thrasher of Portage, and Scott Tracy Smith of Climax; 7 grandchildren, Rachel, Bryan, Bradley, Eric, Kyle, Justin, and Megan; 1 brother, Gerald Smith; 5 sisters, Gloria Paul Johansson, Darlene Worham, Carolyn Robert Moon, Sandy Al Braybrooke, and Dianne Stevens; 1 brother-in-law, William Carol Barton; 3 sisters-in-law, RoseAnn Marvin Triestram, Louise Hulien, and Joyce Harold Dishon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; 1 daughter, Ruby Ann Smith; and 1 sister, Margaret Ann Smith as an infant. Memorial services for Ron will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 8, at Country Christian Ev. Free Church, 9286 S. 36th Street, Scotts, with Pastor Pat Cleary officiating. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Country Christian Ev. Free Church, American Diabetes Foundation, or Climax Fire & Rescue Assn. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple Street.
