July 5, 1938 - August 13, 2009 On August 13, 2009, Ronald A. Channells, age 71, passed away at Borgess Hospital. Ron was born July 5, 1938 to Archie and Dorothy V. Channells and was a graduate from Richland High in 1956. Ron was a lifelong New Apostolic member and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Following his military service, he worked at Railway Express for 10 years and Roadway Express for 25 years, from which he retired in 1997. Ron was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Ron is survived by his wife, Josephine L. Channells DeLong; sons, Sean A. Channells and Lee R. Simmons; daughters and sons-in-law, Billie Jo and Bobby D. Lee, Shirley A. and Johnny L. Williams; grandchildren, Peanut Shelby, My Sunshine Brittany, Punkin Diddle Ashley, Squeezer Samantha Choo-Choo Zachary and Beaner Sabrina; sister, Helen Brodie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Angela De Long, Bearnice and Douglas Wagner; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews; former wives, Wanita Zippern and step-son, Jim Zippern, and Barbara Channells. Ron was preceded in death by both parents, Archie and Dorothy V. Channells; sisters, Barbara Wilson, June Rafferty and Ruth Ball; brother-in-law, Nicholas Brodie; step-son, Edward Zippern; and his beloved dog, Patience. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St. with Evangelist Ewald Heersema officiating. Interment will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. The family will greet visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00AM until 12:00 Noon and from 4:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Joseph's Indian School, 1301 N. Main St., Chamberlain, SD 57326. Following the funeral service, friends are invited to join the family at the American Legion Post 298, 228 N. 20th St., Battle Creek.
