NEWTON, Roger B.
of Galesburg Passed away June 16, 2012 at the age of 90. Roger was born August 14, 1921 in Kalamazoo to the late James and Ella Beck Newton. Roger was united in marriage to Lenna "Lee" Kern on October 10, 1942. Roger proudly served in the U.S. Navy from April of 1942 until honorably discharged in November of 1946. He was employed with Michigan Bell for 38 years until it became AT&T and stayed with them for another 2 years, where he then retired after a combined 40 years of service. He was involved with the local Boy Scout troop for about 40 years as well. Roger also volunteered his time to the Kalamazoo Air Zoo for many years. Surviving Roger are his wife, Lee Newton; children, Carl Vickie Newton of Galesburg, Gary Charlyn Newton of Galesburg and James Roxanne Newton of Parchment; 6 grandchildren, Lori-Marie Jonathan Boyer, Lisa Don Koop, Jason Newton, Travis Newton, Rebekah Newton and Krystine Newton; and 4 great grandchildren. Also preceding Roger in death were 2 sisters, Audrey and Marilyn Newton. Family will greet friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm and also 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St., where services will take place Wednesday at 11:30am. Interment with military honors will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Galesburg Boy Scout Troop # 265, the Galesburg-Charleston Fire Department or to Borgess Hospice and Visiting Nurses Association.
