Roberto Garza, 80 of Portage, entered the loving arms of God on February 8, 2025, at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born on March 2, 1944, in McAllen, Texas, the son of Amadeo and Maria (Cantu) Garza.
Bob Garza grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan going to school at St. Mary’s Catholic School for elementary then attended Kalamazoo Central High School and finished at Portage Central High School.
Bob worked in construction during his younger years until obtaining a job at Upjohn’s which became Pfizer and worked there for a total of 30 years. Bob met his wife Gloria in 1965 at a Grand Rapids dance. They were married in 1966 at a church in Orangeville. Bob and Gloria have one son Bobby, who filled their lives with excitement and surprises around every turn.
Family was very important in Bob’s life and his grandchildren brought him much joy. Bob enjoyed fishing and travel especially back to Texas and Mexico, where he would spend time with family.
Left to cherish Bob’s memory is his beloved wife Gloria, son Roberto (Hannah) Jose Garza, grandchildren Shayne (Haleigh) Garza, Gavyn Garza, Joseph Maleckas, Aidyn Garza, Teagyn Garza; and brother Louis (Guadalupe) Garza. He was preceded in death by his parents Amadeo and Maria, and sibling Margaret Garcia, Juanita Campos, Rosa Neville, and Diego Garza.
Funeral services for Bob will be on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 936 Lake St, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 to 11 AM when the funeral mass will begin with Father TBD presiding. A lunch will follow the funeral mass at church.
