March 25, 1927 — February 28, 2012

WOLBERS, Mr. Robert H. Bob
Kalamazoo, MI Died on February 28, 2012 at Rose Arbor Hospice. He was born March 25, 1927 in the very center of Portage, Michigan. He and his parents, Etta and Henry, owned Wolbers Grocery at the corner of Centre Ave and Westnedge, for 52 years. Bob also owned Wolbers Grocery at Texas Corners for 17 years. After his retirement, Bob volunteered for 27 years at the Portage Community Center. It was his way of giving back to the community for all they had given to him. Bob was married for 56 years to his childhood sweetheart, Betty A. Warren. She was the "love of his life". Together they traveled the world and celebrated life with family and friends. Bob and Betty were founding members of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Bob was a World War II veteran. He enjoyed art, movies, music, collecting and photography. Bob always had a train set, dark room, shop and a stage. He was broken hearted by the death of his wife, Betty, in 2005. He was with his family daily, thereafter, and brought great joy into their lives. Bob is survived by three children, daughter, Sharon Michael Pendola, sons, Dan Jan Wolbers and Tom Chris Wolbers. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. "We will miss Dad greatly but he will live in our hearts forever." A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church located on the corner of Oakland Drive and Romence Rd. in Portage, Michigan. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church or Portage Community Center.
